Healthy Oriental Steak and Chips
200g chips, (oven chips are a healthier option)
1 tbsp salt
2 tbsp Five Spice
chilli powder, to taste
2 steaks, well matured rib-eye or sirloin are ideal
2 tbsp Sichuan pepper, whole - black seeds found inside should be discarded
2 tbsps peppercorns
2 tbsp vegetable oil, for frying
2 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
1 tbsp Sesame Oil
1 spring onion, finely chopped
1. Marinade 2 steaks with 1 tbs crushed Sichuan Peppercorn, 2 tbs sesame oil, 4 tbs soy sauce. Marinade for 15mins.
2. Peeled and cut potato into chips. Boil for 10 mins. Coat with 5-spice, salt and sesame oil.
1. Oven bake Chips for 30mins at 200oC.
2. Add peanut oil to pan, pan fry steak a few mins on each side according to how you like your steak to be. To serve it with chips and steamed Chinese leaf or steamed pak choi vegetable.
